Hopi Ear Candling with Therapists Lin and Brian Lawrence

What is it?

Hopi Ear Candling is a pleasant and satisfying, non-invasive treatment of the ears, used to treat a variety of conditions. Hopi Ear Candles induce a revitalising sensation on the head and ears, which soothes, relieves and relaxes.
Hopi Ear Candling is an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations. The practice reached the modern world via the native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona. The candles are still made today on the basis of the old traditional formula originating from the Hopi Indians.
How does it work?

Clients are usually advised to remove makeup and jewellery before the treatment starts. Fully dressed, the client lies down on their side, with their head supported on a pillow so the auditory canal is vertical. The candle is then lit and the non-burning end is placed gently into the outer ear passage and is turned slightly to seal it in place.
The candle then generates a pleasant crackling sound and the client enjoys a warm, comfortable feeling while it draws out the impurities from the ear. This process lasts between 10 to 12 minutes and then is repeated in the other ear. After this time the process is repeated on the other ear.

The candles are made from the natural ingredients of beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St Johns Wort, chamomile, beta-carotene and organically grown flax. A constant high quality is ensured. The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. They equalise the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions. Secretion flow is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. Most of these are carried away through the candle “chimney”, although some of them can be found in the condensed candle wax residue after removal from the ear, or could even work their way up to the surface 24-48 hours after.

Who should come?

Though results may vary from client to client, many have reported Hopi Ear Candles to be helpful with:

  1. Excessive or compacted wax in the ears
  2. Irritation in ears and sinuses
  3. Noises in the ears, ringing, tinnitus
  4. Sinusitis / rhinitis / glue ear / colds / flu / headaches / migraine
  5. Hearing impediment
  6. The Hopi Ear Candles treatment has been shown to have a relaxing and calming effect in cases of stress.

This treatment includes a ten minute gentle face massage to finish, leaving you feeling totally relaxed and at peace.

The treatment is suitable for children and is a good alternative for people who have found syringing uncomfortable or too harsh and invasive.

What are the side effects and when should this treatment be avoided?

Hopi ear candles should not be used if there is any inflammation or infection in the ear; it is not suitable for people who have had recent ear surgery, or those with ear grommets or tubes, perforated ear drums, or allergies to any of the products in the candle. This includes pregnant women because of the St John’s Wort contained in the candles, albeit in tiny amounts.

Anyone who is receiving medical treatment for any ear condition should always consult their doctor first. Some clients may experience headaches or light popping in the ears after treatment, although this would not be deemed a negative reaction.
