Relaxing Back and Head Massages

For your general relaxation and well-being, TreatmentWorks offer a selection of head, shoulder and back massages to suit your mood and need, for example:

  • Research has shown that treatment before a stressful situation eg sitting an exam or perhaps flying, decreases anxiety levels, reduces respiratory rates and increases the white blood cells thus benefiting the immune system.
  • If you feel your body needs to de-toxify (say before or while trying to lose weight or recovering from an illness) this treatment can be the enjoyable part of that process.
  • The more obvious benefit following treatment is to give you a sense of peace, calm and well-being; it particularly can help headache and migraine sufferers and those suffering anxiety and stress, with the added benefit of perhaps obviating the need to resort to pain killers and other drugs.
  • Last but not least, not to be under – estimated is the power of touch and we can all benefit greatly from the solace and comfort derived from the therapeutic touch.
Indian Head Massage

A head/scalp, shoulder and neck massage.

We work with or without oils – that is up to you – but the hair benefits from the richness of the oils and should leave it shiny and in better condition following treatment. You lie comfortably on the treatment couch while the head/scalp, shoulder and neck area is massaged. Our treatment lasts approximately 30 minutes.

The treatment helps you to have a feeling of calm and well-being. It helps to de- stress and de-toxify, and leaves you with a sense of peace helping to decrease muscle tension throughout the body. If oils have been used during treatment your hair should be shinier, after washing. Best of all it helps to benefit your immune system and thus contributes to gaining and maintaining optimum health.

Back, Neck and Head Massage

This form of massage covers the back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands and face. Using natural, aromatherapeutic oils, the client lies comfortably face down on a treatment couch, while the masseur uses gentle, flowing pressure strokes to fully relax you. It concludes with a sensitive face massage. Of short duration (usually 30 minutes) it can be adapted to form the basis of a longer massage.

Short-form Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage.

A beautiful and inspiring massage in its own right, this massage can cover the upper half of the back of the body, including head and neck, and can be extended to include the legs and feet. The client remains lying face downwards on the massage couch.

As with the full Lomi Lomi massage, the practitioner uses his hands and forearms with his bodyweight moving to the continuous rhythm of basic Hula dance steps. Working with oils, long and flowing strokes are made up and down the length and breadth of the back and legs (if included), giving the impression of many hands massaging simultaneously as greater contact with larger surface areas stimulate deep and meaningful sensory communications.

The shorter back massage lasts for about 30 minutes and the longer version, including the legs, lasts for about 40 minutes. Both massages conclude with a sensitive face massage to complete the feeling of relaxation and well-being. The longer version can be used as an introduction to the full Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage, which covers the whole body, back and front, and is described on another page.
